RPM offers New Zealand’s largest and most sophisticated wire cut set-up as part of our high quality CNC machining services. Our three modern wire cut machines undertake all work in-house, so we have total quality control.

  • Modern Charmilles wire cut machines
  • Any geometric shape possible
  • Highly skilled wire cut operators
  • Climate controlled environment
  • Superior component accuracy

Our wire cut facility compliments RPM’s wide range of CNC milling equipment, ensuring all machining resources are available in-house to meet all our clients’ requirements for  resilient, fine tolerance tool parts and components for tool manufacture.

To ensure unbeatable timeframes and seamless transitions, wire cut finished components are scheduled and manufactured on a just in time basis, with RPM’s technically skilled wire cut operators programming at the CNC machines.

RPM’s modern Charmilles machining centre, enables us to provide superior accuracy and detail on mould parts. Our commitment to using only European grade tool steels and employing modern wire cut technology results in superior surface finishes and allows our tool makers to achieve extremely fine tolerances.

Clients who use RPM’s wire cutting services include Hansen Products NZ Ltd, one of Australasia’s leading innovators and manufacturers of pipe fittings for the agriculture and horticulture industries. To see who else we work with, read our case studies here.

What is Wire Cutting / EDM?

Wire cutting is also known as wire cut electrical discharge machining (EDM) and wire cutting. During EDM a thin single-strand metal wire, which is normally brass, is fed through the workpiece and submerged in dielectric fluid.

At RPM we generally use wire EDM for wire cutting, press tools, injection moulds, extrusion dies, form tools, vacuum tubes, splines and gears. Metal plates up to around 300mm can be cut using wire-cut EDM, along with punches, tools, and dies from hard metals that are difficult to machine using other methods.
