Simon Eccelston is under the spotlight in light of his recent achievements academically and professionally.
Recently Simon completed a lengthy and in-depth Graduate Diploma in Technology majoring in Mechatronics, meaning he can now claim the title of Simon Eccleston G Dip Tech. Following this was promoted to the senior position of RPM Design Manager by the management team who had recognised his exceptional leadership skills.
A vastly expanding field focused largely in the world of robotics and automation, Mechatronics is a design process that includes a combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, control engineering and computer engineering.
This ever expanding field of knowledge is described by Simon as being “the way of the future”, and has really captured his imagination in engineering. RPM International Tool and Die are doing increasing amounts of work in this area and Simon’s increasing skills and knowledge complement RPM’s current practices in automation, and assist with further growth in these fields.
Simon is especially looking forward to fully automating a moulding cell, which he explains, means building a moulding tool with the supplementary equipment and programming which enables it to run fully autonomously.
Simon’s dream project is to design, build and programme a fully automated production line with machinery of any denomination, which he certainly has the skills to do. Simon is keen to work more and more within Automation.
With significant tooling design experience and knowledge, a new degree, a small business management course and a key position within RPM, Simon’s achievements are pretty impressive for a man still in his 20’s.
Simon puts his achievements down to the fact that University is more than just learning how to ‘write, code and wire up a tool’. He says it is about time management, project management, presentation of operational projects and in depth engineering, and that these skills have contributed to his broad scope of professionalism.
With all these professional and academic achievements, we wouldn’t have guessed that Simon had time for social activities, but amongst other things he is a keen and regular Salsa dancer.
Well done on your achievements Simon. We applaud you.
