As a company Director, Aaron Dwight represents one of the major cogs in the RPM wheel. A hugely experienced and passionate engineer, Aaron has a wealth of knowledge and skills to draw from in his role as Manufacturing Director.
Injection mould tooling manufacture most interesting for Aaron. “I enjoy the challenge that each project brings, being so different from the last – the continual innovation and the way the product changes and develops beyond past boundaries are inspirational.”
The variation in the projects RPM completes is a constant source of interest for Aaron, who oversees projects in the packaging, health, appliance and engineering industries amongst many others.
Clearly passionate about his work, Aaron has a strong vision of the future. He sees RPM as a world leader in injection mould and press tooling and hopes to achieve this within five years. With the company’s continued growth and exceptional reputation, he’s got a good chance of realising this goal.
As Manufacturing Director, Aaron is proud to acknowledge that he and the RPM team are often first to hear about new and challenging products. “Customers are looking for our reassurance; and are confident in our ability to manufacture” says Aaron.
With 20 years of RPM experience Aaron has racked up many achievements but most proudly, Aaron describes his pleasure at being involved with new business start-ups, watching them grow into large projects and seeing these evolve and develop. These companies include Fisher and Paykel Healthcare, Zee Tags and recent start-up Aquastrength, which is already going from strength to strength.
A strong business leader, Aaron aims to be a good coach and mentor – and a strong motivator. He says he has a great team to work with, who respond well to his input and have a positive impact on the company results.
It’s easy to see Aaron’s professional drive reflected by his successes in Speedway. Aaron raced for the New Zealand team in Speedway Championships in Europe and Australia, gaining accolades in his first year as rookie, with highest point score and numerous prizes throughout the season. Aaron also competed with the winning “Rest of the World” team against Great Britain in the European Championships in Denmark. Aaron is also an accomplished skier and golfer.
Aaron’s career trajectory began with an apprenticeship, where he was lucky enough to be involved in a Cadetship, with the opportunity to experience an exchange programme in different workshop environments. He felt this was a great opportunity to get a feel for the different areas of engineering and tool making.
From there, the young engineer spent time in Europe and the UK. It was in Southampton that Aaron was offered his first Tool Room Management position, but this opportunity prompted him to take stock. The next day, he turned the job down and soon returned home to New Zealand.
On his return,Aaron was offered three positions with Kiwi companies, and chose the role of Senior Toolmaker at RPM, because he liked the vision that company founders and Directors Peter Smith and Mark Vincent shared. Aaron eventually became the RPM Workshop Manager and subsequently became Manufacturing Director.
As New Zealand’s – and most probably Australasia’s – biggest exporter of tooling, RPM has no issues dealing with global trading, offering an exceptional service and after sales service, adapting to environments and economical climates easily.
